The training allows the candidate to fly following the application of RNAV (Area Navigation) and RNP (Required Navigation Performance) specifications
Info
- Theory: 5 hrs
- Practice: 3 hrs
- Duration: 1-2 days
PBN (PERFORMANCE BASED NAVIGATION) training allows the candidate to fly following the application of RNAV (Area Navigation) and RNP (Required Navigation Performance) specifications. The overall improvement in aircraft performance is then dictated by the particular combination of aircraft equipment + effective pilot training.
Pre-Requisites for Admission:
- Be in possession of PPL License (A) or higher with valid IR Rating (A);
- Be in possession of First-class mental and physical fitness certification issued by an aviation medical specialist (AME);
Course Schedule:
Total hours of theoretical instruction: 05;00
Total hours of practical instruction: 03:00
Theory:
Theoretical part provides the hours mentioned above, that the ATO offers in-person for conducting 5 hours of theoretical instruction. Through the application of RNAV (Area Navigation) and RNP (Required Navigation Performance) specifications, PBN training can provide the means to:
- have more flexible and performant routes and procedures
- reduce air traffic congestion
- reduce flight times
- save fuel
- reduce environmental impact (less CO2 emissions)
- reduce the impact caused by aircraft noise
- increase flight safety
- increase airspace capacity
Flight Program:
The flight program includes no less than 3 hours of training on ATO's aircraft.
PLEASE NOTE: The amount of flight experience credit is determined, based on the documentation provided, following an assessment by the school, in accordance with the EASA PART FCL regulations.
Scheduled Exams:
At the conclusion of practice and theory hours, the student will undergo a Proficiency Check with a licensed Examiner who will issue certification.
Course Duration:
The duration of the theory course is normally a few days but can be adapted to the needs of the candidate.
As of March 2018, ATO Cantor Air is qualified to issue the PBN certification, as established by ENAC/EASA. The Performance Based Navigation course is aimed at those pilots already holding IR + SEP or MEP ratings.
What does PBN training consist of and why is it mandatory as of August 20, 2020?
PBN training is about a type of navigation that relies on dedicated on-board equipment, which determine the PBN capabilities of the aircraft. Thus, the overall improvement of aircraft performance is dictated by the particular combination of aircraft equipment plus effective pilot training.
Through the application of RNAV (Area Navigation) and RNP (Required Navigation Performance) specifications, PBN training can provide the means to:
- have more flexible and performant routes and procedures
- reduce air traffic congestion
- reduce flight times
- save fuel
- reduce environmental impact (less CO2 emissions)
- reduce the impact caused by aircraft noise
- increase flight safety
- increase airspace capacity
The goal of Performance Based Navigation is to gradually become more and more independent from ground-based radio aids that are to date basic tools for enabling instrumental flights.
Cantor Air flight school has developed PBN training, which is now mandatory for every pilot with an instrument rating (IR), for its students and anyone else who wants it, with the goal of training future pilots who can meet the high standards demanded by major airlines.
